LinkedIn is a great channel for B2B marketing and personal branding. And video is one of the most effective formats for attracting attention, building relationships and communicating complex messages.

But how do you get your videos to actually reach and engage users? Here are 7 concrete tips to help you increase reach and engagement on LinkedIn without having to post more often or boost everything with ad dollars.

1. Grab attention quickly

On LinkedIn, you only have a few seconds to grab your audience’s attention. The first 1-3 seconds are crucial. Use a strong visual hook or a clear headline directly in the video.

Use text in the image, preferably with large headlines so the user understands what the video is about. Even without sound.

2. Post the video on Linkedin – not as a Youtube link

LinkedIn’s algorithm favors video that is uploaded directly to the platform. A YouTube link is not prioritized in the same way, because the algorithm doesn’t like the user to be sent away from Linkedin.

Upload your video as an MP4 file directly in the post. For higher visibility and better playback on mobile.

3. Subtitles are a must

Most people watch video without sound, especially on mobile. If you don’t have subtitles, you risk not getting the message at all.

Add subtitles directly in the video (burned in) or as an SRT file. This increases both comprehension and accessibility.

4. Keep it short and sweet

LinkedIn users scroll fast and time is short. Videos under 60 seconds generally perform better than longer formats.

Get to the point quickly and cut out unnecessary filler. Think: one message – one video.

5. Use a personal tone of voice and face

Personal content often performs better than highly polished and corporate content. Use a real person from the company, such as a CEO, specialist or customer to create credibility and presence.

Consider a short video with speak to camera or an interview clip. It makes the video authentic.

6. Optimize your text and thumbnail

The text around the video is just as important as the video itself. Use a catchy intro, preferably with questions or challenges that the target audience can relate to.

Add a catchy thumbnail (cover image) if possible to make the video look professional in the feed.

7. Engage with your network before and after

LinkedIn rewards engagement. This means that likes, comments and shares in the first 60 minutes after posting have a big impact on how many people watch your video.

Make sure to reply to comments and possibly comment first. Consider tagging relevant people or companies (wisely).
