You send newsletters. Your recipients click… sort of. But what if you could get more people to open, view and act – without changing your entire strategy? Then you need to use video in newsletters.

Not as decoration. As a performance driver.

Why use video in newsletters?

  • Emails with video get on average 19% higher open rates
  • And 65% higher click-through rate than emails without
  • Video creates momentum, engagement and recognition

Video works because it explains quickly, feels powerful – and because people would rather press play than read three paragraphs of text.

But does it work in practice?

Yes – but with a few key levers.

Here’s what actually works when using video in emails:

5 concrete tips to boost the effect:

  1. Use a thumbnail with a “play” icon
Most email clients do not display playable videos directly. Therefore, use an image of the video with a play button that links to a landing page or YouTube/Vimeo.
  2. Make it clear in the subject line
Example: “Watch our new video (1 minute)” – it creates curiosity and sets expectations.
  3. Keep the video short and focused
30-90 seconds is perfect. Think teaser, not documentary.
  4. Match the video to the email’s purpose
Should the reader sign up, book, read more? Your video should support that goal – not just look good.
  5. Track what works
Use UTM tags or links with tracking so you can measure what recipients click on – and how long they watch.

What can you use video for in emails?

  • Product news
  • Customer cases
  • Behind the scenes
  • Event invitations
  • Personal greeting from CEO or team

There are many possibilities. It’s all about knowing what your target audience finds exciting.

Ready to bring your newsletters to life?

At Filmbudget, we create videos that are made to be shared, opened and clicked on – also in your email campaign.

Get a quick budget – and let us put video on your next news story.

We develop creative concepts, produce films and content, and help companies tell their stories in a way that creates impact.

The price depends on format, ambition level and scope. We have created price examples on Filmbudget.dk so you can easily get an idea of where your project will end up.

We offer both – everything from brand and campaign films to social media content, explainers, employer branding and event coverage. We find the format that best suits your story.

It depends on the format, ambition level and production. A typical production takes between 2-8 weeks from concept to finished product.

We are based in our studio in Svendborg, but work with customers throughout Denmark and internationally. We are happy to travel when it makes sense.
